Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones

The Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless noise cancelling headphones use a QN3 processor and 12 microphones for noise cancelling, which adjusts automatically to ambient noise, air pressure and how you are wearing them. Battery life is up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on, and 3 minutes of charging gives up to 1 hour of playback.

The WH-1000XM6 uses Sony's QN3 HD noise cancelling processor, which Sony says processes 7 times faster than the previous generation, working with 12 microphones that pick up surrounding noise.

Adaptive NC Optimizer adjusts the noise cancelling to ambient noise, air pressure and how you are wearing the headphones. There is also an automatic ambient sound mode, so you can still hear your surroundings with the headphones on.

30mm carbon fibre composite diaphragm, with LDAC and DSEE Extreme support

The driver uses a 30mm diaphragm made from a high-rigidity carbon fibre composite material. Bluetooth supports LDAC, which Sony says transmits about 3 times as much data as standard Bluetooth. When playing compressed music files, DSEE Extreme upscales them using Edge-AI technology.

With the Sony | Sound Connect app, you can customise the sound with a 10-band EQ. The headphones are also 360 Reality Audio certified.

6 AI microphones for calls, with automatic switching between 2 devices

For calls, 6 AI beamforming microphones pick up your voice. Multipoint connection lets you connect 2 devices at once and switches between them automatically, for example a phone and a laptop at the same time, with no need to re-pair each time.

The WH-1000XM6 also supports LE Audio, the LC3 codec and Gaming Audio Profile, which require a compatible device.

Music playback lasts up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on and up to 40 hours with it off. A full charge over USB-C takes about 3.5 hours.

If you are in a hurry, quick charging gives up to 1 hour of playback after 3 minutes of charging. With a compatible USB-PD charger (sold separately), 3 minutes of charging gives up to 3 hours of playback.

The headphones weigh about 254g and fold up, and the carry case closes magnetically. A 3.5mm cable (about 1.2m) is included, so you can listen with a wire on devices that have a 3.5mm jack.
